Well, I can't say it's been a fruitful year. If you were following my earlier posts, you will remember I figured Richard Holbrooke would be the man to implement Poppy for Medicine. It was not to be. Working closely with the Bulldozer became ever more frustrating as he was increasingly sidelined. Now he has passed away, so has a political solution to the Afghan conflict.
His last words were: "You've got to stop this war in Afghanistan,” addressed not to me, the President or Hillary but to his Pakistani surgeon at the hospital where he died. It means sadly too that all hope for the Poppy for Medicine campaign has now gone and I will be seeking the Right Question in other places.
Egypt is favourite in the New Year as I’ve been advised by my old friend Bahauddin (see earlier posts) that a visit to Edfu will reveal all. Looks like a good spot to perch for some tardy research into Horus who features so prominently in my second novel Fields of Yaru as well as to escape the northern winter for a few days at least. Whether I first have to ask the right question is unclear..
